Coimbatore: Man kills grand-daughter over family squabble

Police rushed to the spot, recovered the body and sent it to the Coimbatore GH for post-mortem.

Coimbatore: A 47-year-old man has been arrested for murdering his ten-month-old granddaughter in the wake of a family squabble near Kinathukadavu.

According to police, Kumar a daily wage laborer resides at Arasampalayam Pirivu near Kinathukadavu. His father Selvaraj, 47, left his home at around 11.30 am on Monday along with Kumar’s baby Darshini. When, even after a long time, Selvaraj did not return home, a worried Kumar lodged a complaint at Kinathukadavu police station.

On Tuesday, police found Selvaraj roaming alone in an abandoned area near Kinathukadavu. During interrogation, he claimed that he had killed the baby and disposed of the body behind a bakery in the same area.

Police rushed to the spot, recovered the body and sent it to the Coimbatore GH for post-mortem.

During further interrogation, Selvaraj claimed that his second wife Sakthi Kani left him recently because his first wife’s son Kumar and his wife Muthumalai had allegedly frequently quarreled with Sakthi Kani. This led him to take revenge by killing Kumar’s child. The baby’s murder has sent shock waves among residents of Kinathukadavu.
