Five people held for robbing Chinese man
Bengaluru: Indiranagar police have arrested five people, who had snatched a mobile phone from a Chinese national in the early hours of July 25. The arrested have been identified as Mani (23), Manikantha (20), Vijay (22), Arun Kirran (20) and Sharath (25). According to the police, the accused who are habitual offenders were on two bikes and were searching for people who they could rob.
“They saw two men standing on a roadside. As the area was isolated and not properly lit, the accused approached the Chinese nationals and snatched mobile phone from one of them. The accused also attacked the victim when he tried to resist,” the police said. The duo dialled up Namma 100 and alerted the control room. A Hoysala patrolling vehicle which was nearby was pressed into service.
Though the vehicle reached the spot within minutes, the accused by then had managed to flee. The Hoysala staff however rushed the victims to a hospital.
The police described the incident to be a case of robbery and have ruled out the possibility of a racial attack. Two two-wheelers used in the crime are also seized.
