Hyderabad: Parents held for murder of 7-year-old
Hyderabad: Yacharam police on Wednesday arrested the parents for the murder of a seven-year-old Urmila Chatriya, a deaf and mute from Chinthulla village. Worried about the future of her mentally unsound girl, the mother killed the child destroyed evidence with the help of her husband to mislead the police.
S. Malla Reddy, ACP of Ibrahimpatnam identified the accused as Bilati Chatriya, 39, and Hethuram Chatriya, 45, both of whom worked as labourers in a brick kiln. "On May 26, the mother found the girl asleep alone in their hut. Taking advantage of the situation, the woman smashed the child's head with brick, leading to her instant death. She along with her husband then hid the body under a mound of ash and later registered missing complaint to divert the attention of police," he said.
Police said the girl was mentally unsound and often created nuisance in the neighbourhood. Worried about her marriage prospects in the future and tired of her continuous encounters with the neighbours the parents decided to kill her, they said.
Investigating the missing complaint filed by the parents, Yacharam police on Tuesday recovered the child's body from the premises of the brick kiln. The couple have been remanded to judicial custody.
