Hyderabad: The police has arrested the owner and rider of the two horses which collided with a truck on the road between Mojamjahi Market and Siddiamber Bazaar mosque on May 20. The two were arrested on Monday night. The police also booked a suo-moto case against the duo for their negligence towards the horses and for abandoning them on the road.
After receiving complaints from Human Society International, an NGO for animal rights, against the horse carriage owner, Begum Bazaar police launched an inquiry and found the two horses and cart were hired for a marriage from owner Vinod Sharma, and it was ridden by one Mohammad Saleem.
During the investigation using the video which went viral, police identified that the two horses, Raja and Rihan, were from Sri Kishan Maharaj Horse Supply agency owned by Vinod Sharma, 42.
Police said the wedding carriage with two horses was returning to Begum Bazaar. On the way near Care Hospital Saleem stopped the cart to eat.
“When the cart was stopped by the rider the horse suddenly started running towards SA Bazaar due to the sound of vehicle horns. The horses were hit by a lorry which resulted in injuries to the horses. The absence of the rider in the carriage and collision with a moving vehicle on the wrong side of the road at high speed endangered the safety of other road users,” the inspector said.
HSI’s Alokparna Sengupta said, “It could have caused more damage. We hope the GHMC will ban horse carriages like Maharashtra.”
