Telangana: Engineering student writes to cops, ends life
Hyderabad: A 21-year-old housewife, who was pursuing her final year of engineering, allegedly committed suicide following harassment by her mother and husband.
G. Janaki wrote a suicide note stating that her mother and husband were trying to force her into the flesh trade and posted it to the DGP, police superintendent and the Nakrekal inspector. The letter reached reached them on Monday.
Janaki of Nakrekal, was married to Vijayendar Reddy from Nalgonda two years ago. Her family said she was not interested in the marriage but agreed to it.
Her husband forced her to have sexual intercourse. In addition, her husband and in laws started harassing her. She found that her husband was visiting her mother without her knowledge and in her brother’s absence, police said.
Janaki who kept a watch on them, caught them red handed in a compromising position. Since then she started avoiding him and requested her mother to break the relation, to which she did not agree, according to the police.
Later she convinced her in-laws and joined an engineering course in Hyderabad. She was residing at a private hostel and came home very rarely. On May 23, after completing her final examination, Vijayendar Reddy dropped her at her mother’s home and the next day she committed suicide by consuming pesticide.
To hide the facts, the family members completed her funeral. However, the Nakrekal inspector received a copy of her suicide note through speed post. Based on the letter, a case of abetment to suicide has been registered. Police is investigating.
