Hyderabad: Three private persons who suffered business loss are now posing as Anti Corruption Bureau sleuths.

The trio Vemula Srikanth, 26, a businessman, Galeebu Nageshwar Rao, 27, and Rajamahendrapu Krishna, 30, were caught demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 1 lakh from a senior employee of the Commercial tax office, Begumpet.

ACB Hyderabad district superintendent of police Mr Ashok Kumar who trapped the trio said, “The three incurred losses in their business and in order to make quick money, posed as ACB sleuths and blackmailed three government officials.

As soon as credible information was received, a trap was laid and the three were caught at Shanbagh hotel in Panjagutta. They had demanded '1 lakh from B. Yaidaiah — who works with the commercial tax department — by threatening him that a corruption case will be booked against him, unless the bribe amount of '1 lakh is paid.”

The trio also threatened two more public servants who lodged a complaint with ACB Hyderabad district wing. The trio were arrested and produced before the city ACB court.

The ACB appeals that in case anyone demands money by posing as the ACB, they should contact toll-free number 1064.
