Bengaluru police rescue kidnapped boy, four arrested
BENGALURU: The KP Agrahara police have rescued a five-year-old boy, who was kidnapped by four men on Sunday, and opened fire at one of the accused when he tried to attack the police with a machete.
The arrested accused have been identified as Abhishek, 23, a resident of Manjunathnagar, Srikanth, 19, from Chamarajpet, Divyatej, 22, and Harshith, 18, both from Kasturba Nagar.
Abhishek was the mastermind and he was their landlord’s son. He knew that the boy’s father Rajesh had recently sold his property and it would be easy to kidnap his son and demand a ransom.
He convinced his friends to join him and the four had been planning on this kidnapping from several days. Earlier on Sunday afternoon, Chandan was kidnapped by two bike borne men, while playing in front of his house.
By evening his parents had filed a missing complaint with the KP Agrahara police. Around 9:30 pm the boy’s father, Rajesh, received a ransom call from the kidnappers demanding Rs 35 lakh.
Rajesh tried calling back to the same number, but it was not reachable and he immediately informed the police.
The police first spoke to children who were playing with Chandan and got to know that he was kidnapped by two bike borne men.
“We showed different pictures of bikes to the children and we learnt that the kidnappers had used a TVS Apache bike. Based on this we started gathering CCTV footage to track down the kidnappers,” the police added. The police had formed three special teams on Monday and by evening they traced the kidnapper’s location and found that they were coming back from Mysuru. The police intercepted their car near Kengeri.
The police rescued the boy and during investigation one of the accused, Divyatej, tried to attack the police with a machete.
KP Agrahara Police Inspector Manju immediately fired at his right leg and he was taken to the nearby hospital.
