Hyderabad: Cabbie, aide held for 63-year-old woman's murder

Hyderabad: The LB Nagar police arrested a cab driver and his associate for murdering a 63-year-old woman, Jaya Sree and fleeing with her gold ornaments near Rythu Bazaar in NTR Nagar last week.

The police arrested Poshamoni Srinivasu alias Srinu, 30, the cab driver who had picked her up from her residence at Haripuri Colony, and his associate Abdul Ahzar, 27. According to the police, Jaya Sree borrowed Rs 2 lakh from Srinivasu and also owed him Rs 1.5 lakh towards cab hire charges, since he was helping her with errands after her husband’s leg was amputated due to diabetes.

After several failed attempts to get back his money, he hatched a plan to murder her and flee with her gold ornaments, said LB Nagar police inspector V. Ashok Reddy.

Accordingly, last Friday, Jaya Sree availed his cab and he picked her up to drop her at Rythu Bazaar. Police suspect that it was there that Srinivas and Azhar throttled her and dumped her body in the open.

The investigation team picked up Srinivasum who confessed to killing her, following which officials seized the gold ornaments.
