Four held for cheating car owners, police seize stolen vehicles
BENGALURU: Four people who were allegedly cheating car owners have been arrested by the Yeshwantpur police.
The accused have been identified as Nagaraja alias Laggere Naga, 32, of Chowdeshwarinagar, Girish, 31, of Nayandahalli, Lokesh, 37, of HBR Layout, and Aravinda Gowda K.S, 41, of Domlur in Indiranagar.
According to the police, Prasanna Venkatesh, a resident of Yeshwanthpur, had filed a complaint that he had purchased a Mahindra KUV vehicle and had given it to Manjunath, a driver. The agreement between them was that Manjunath should pay the car loan to the bank directly and pay Rs 15,000 to the owner every month. Venkatesh had given all the original vehicle documents and Manjunath had gone missing without paying the loan or giving Rs 15,000 to the owner as agreed.
“When the investigation was taken up, it was found that a gang was cheating car owners. Their modus operandi was that they identified those friends who had cars, but were in need of money. They promised them they would take care of the loan amount and also give them a fixed monthly amount. After a few months, they sold the vehicles at a cheaper rate and shared the money. If the owner asked them, they used to give lame reasons and start avoiding them,” the police said.
The police cracked two cases with their arrests and seized four cars, including a Mercedes Benz. Some other gang members are absconding and efforts are on to nab them.
