Couple stabbed in Tadiapthri

Anantapur: A woman and her husband, who was an ex serviceman and a retired bank employee, suffered serious injuries after unidentified assailants attacked them at Vijayanagar Colony in Tadipathri town in this district on Wednesday.

According to the police, Rama Devi was putting rangoli in front of her house in the early hours on Wednesday as part of holy Karthikamasam. Two men came on a motorcycle and tried to grab her gold chain.

Rama Devi ran into the house, hid in the kitchen and shouted for help. The assailants entered the kitchen and tried to grab her gold chain. They stabbed her with a sharp knife.

In the meantime, her husband Venkatrami Reddy, who was sleeping, rushed to the kitchen and resisted the duo. They attacked him and fled from the spot after leaving the knife.

Rama Devi, who suffered serious stab injuries to her throat, became unconscious while Venkatrami Reddy suffered injuries to his stomach.

After the couple shouted for help, nearby people rushed to the spot and alerted the Tadipatri urban police.

Police shifted the duo with an ambulance to Tadipathri government hospital. From there, the doctors referred the case to Anantapur.

The couple were shifted to a private nursing home in Anantapur. Doctors said Rama Devi was battling for life while Venkatrami Reddy was safe.

Tadipathri urban inspector Hamid Khan said an investigation was on. “We are investigating the case from multiple dimensions,” he observed and added that the CC Camera footage was checking the moments of the attackers in Tadipathri town.
