Hyderabad: A special court dealing with Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) cases, sentenced a 19-year-old teenager to 10 year imprisonment under POCSO Act 2012. The accused has been identified as Sabavath Vinod, 19, supply boy, a resident of Shivaji Nagar in Chatrinaka.

Vinod cheated a 16-year-old girl in the name of love in 2016. Speaking to this newspaper, public prosecutor, K. Pratap Reddy said, “The accused used to visit the girl’s residence when she was alone and used to force himself on her. Vinod used to threaten the victim with dire consequence if she complained to anyone. However, five days after the offence, the victim gained courage and informed her family about the incident.”

When her family asked Vinod to marry their daughter, he denied having any relationship with the victim. Following this, the victim lodged a complaint against Vinod in December 2016. The Chatrinaka police booked a POSCO case on the accused and nabbed him.

After thorough examination, the accused was found guilty by the special court and Metropolitan Sessions Judge Suneetha Kunchala sentenced him to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment along with a Rs 5,000 fine.
