Four burns victims battle for life in Kovai hospital
Coimbatore: In an unspeakable tragedy, four members of a family suffered serious burn injuries in a fire that broke out in their house near Udumalpet in the wee hours of Sunday and are at present battling for their lives in a private hospital in Coimbatore.
Police said the house of Ramasubramaniam, staying with his wife Vanitha and their two sons, in GVT layout near Udumalpet in Tirupur district, shockingly went up in flames around 2.30 am, hours after the family had retired to bed for the day after they had supper together on Saturday night. Aravindh, the first son of the couple has completed his Engineering and works in a private firm while their second son Bharath is doing his UG.
As the fire quickly engulfed their house, all its four occupants were trapped in the blaze, police said. Hearing the cries of Ramasubramaniam and his family members, neighbors informed the fire station and fire fitting personnel along with the help of members of the public put out the fire and rescued the occupants.
However, all the four members of the family were severely injured. They were rushed to Udumalpet GH and after first aid sent to a private hospital in Coimbatore for further treatment and are now being treated in its ICU. Police have lodged an FIR and started investigations. They, nonetheless, suspect that an electricity leak could have sparked off the fire.
