Boy missing from charity home found dead in Kanchipuram

The boy who was playing with his friends went missing, when the staff couldn't find him they filed a complaint.

Chennai: A ten-year-old boy who was deemed missing from a charity home was found dead in a manhole of an under construction apartment complex near Somangalam in Kancheepuram district, 50 km from the City on Sunday morning. The boy, S. Parasuraman was a class 4 student in a school run by a local church and stayed at the charity home there along with 30 other students. Both his parents are casual labourers, police said.

On October 24, Parasuraman was playing hide and seek with the other kids. Around 8 pm, when the children returned to the home, Parasuraman was missing after which the staff and the children went looking for him. After their search proved futile, a missing complaint was filed at the Somangalam police station.

Meanwhile, on Sunday, workers at a construction site near the home experienced foul smell emanating from one of the open manholes and peeped inside to find the decomposed body of the boy inside. Police rushed to the scene on information and secured the boy's body from the manhole. The body was moved to the Government hospital for autopsy. Police suspect the boy to have accidentally slipped into the manhole in the dark. Somangalam police have registered a case under CrPc 174 and are investigating. “There were no external injuries on the boy's body. For now, we rule out any foul play,” a senior police officer said.
