Hyderabad: A 15-year-old girl was murdered by a man who befriended her through social media, in Jadcherla in Mahbubna-gar district. The girl was studying Class X in a Kendriya Vidyalaya in Mahbubnagar. She was bludgeoned to death and her body recovered from the scene of the crime.
According to the police 27-year-old Yenugu Naveen approached the girl on Facebook and established a friendship with her.
He came to Jadcherla, and took her to Shankarpally hamlet on Tuesday.
When the girl didn’t return home, her parents lodged a missing person complaint with the police. In the course of the investigation, the police checked CCTV footage and social media accounts.
They found that the girl had been in touch with one Naveen Reddy who worked in a car mechanics shop in Hayathnagar. The police picked him up from the Hayathnagar area late on Wednesday night and took him to Jadcherla.
When questioned, he confessed that he had taken advantage of the friendship and had taken the girl to a secluded place in Shankarpally on Tuesday and had tried to sexually abuse her.
Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, deputy super-intendent of police, Mahbubnagar B. Bhaskar said, “When the girl opposed his advances and showed severe resistance, he pushed her onto a rock following which she sustained severe head injury and lost consciousness.”
Subsequently, Naveen bludgeoned her to death with a boulder, the police official. Naveen led the police to the scene of the crime, from where the girl’s body was recovered and sent for post-mortem examination.
