3 held for snatching chains in Thiruvananthapuram

Thiruvananthapuram: The Fort police held a man who snatched a three-sovereign gold chain from a woman walking on the road at Thakaraparambu near Overbridge here on Wednesday.

The man, identified as Robin, an accused in several chain-snatching cases, is a resident of Puliyarakonam.

According to the police, the crime took place around 8.30 am on Wednesday when the accused snatched the chain of Souda Beewi, 67, as she was walking along the road.

He was walking in the opposite direction. As he reached near her, he suddenly snatched the chain and fled. The lady raised the alarm to inform others on the road, the police said.

The police team who reached the spot collected details about him, including the colour of his shirt from the woman and shared it on WhatsApp to all police stations.The police, including shadow teams, searched and caught him from near SP Fort Hospital with the help of locals with the gold chain.

In another incident, Nemom police arrested two men identified as Ananthu Ashok, 20, of Chanthavila near Kattachalkuzhi and Vipin, 19, of Kattachalkuzhi for snatching the chain of a woman on August 8 near Nemom.

The accused attacked the woman, who was riding her scooter towards Vedivachamkovil from Nemom, in an attempt to snatch her chain. She lost control of her vehicle and fell sustaining injuries.
