Hyderabad: Partially deaf man nabbed for burglaries
Hyderabad: A 30-year-old partially deaf and mute man involved in a series of shop burglaries in the North Zone area of Hyderabad was arrested by the Gopalapuram police.
Police officials seized cash, three mobile phones and other incriminating material from him.
The accused was identified as Ningaiah alias Mark, 30, a resident of Clock Tower Garden in Secunderabad, police said.
“In the first week of August, a series of shutter lifting offences were reported in the limits of Chilkalguda, Tukaram Gate, Marredpally and Gopalapuram police stations of North Zone and the modus operandi was similar in all of them. The locks were burnt with a match,” said the DCP (North), B. Sumathi.
“All the offences seemed to be operated by the same man in the same way. Beside this, footages of the man were also captured in the CCTV cameras installed in the vicinity,” said the official.
Police worked out the clues and organised a wide manhunt for locating the person involved in the offences.
In the early hours of Wednesday, a random checking was organised near Rathifile bus stand in Secunderabad by the Gopalapuram police.
The police found a handicapped person trying to escape from the police and try to get into a moving truck.
“We immediately chased him and he was apprehended by the detective sub-inspector of Gopalapuram and upon interrogation, he was found deaf and mute,” said the official.
“He was immediately taken to an NGO at Sweekar Upkar and tests were conducted by an ENT specialist and a psychologist and it was concluded that the man was exaggerating his disability. The doctors also added that he was very clever with his tactics,” said the official.
He further added that a requisition was given for a sign language interpreter and on his instance, the above offences were admitted by him and the stolen property was recovered.
