Hyderabad: 36 cases registered, 38 held for eve teasing
Hyderabad: Rachakonda SHE teams have apprehended 38 people in 36 cases registered in the last three weeks of August for eve-teasing and harassing women. In addition, 14 people were caught during decoy operations in public places.
In an incident at Saroornagar, a 19-year-old intermediate second year student complained that an auto driver, Ravi Teja, 20, from her neighbourhood was harassing her and had also sent morphed pictures to her friends and family. He threatened her with dire consequences if she did not accept his proposal.
Rachakonda police commissioner Mahesh Bhagwat said that the accused was a resident of the colony where the girl lived and had befriended her. His phone calls to her became regular and he proposed to her. Despite the girl refusing, Ravi Teja harassed her by making calls at unusual times.
Wherever the girl went, he followed her. The accused also downloaded her pictures from social media profiles and morphed them to send them to her friends and family, the police commissioner said.
Based on the girl’s complaint, the accused was arrested under Sections 354 D and 506 of IPC, Section 3 (2) (V) of SC and ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and under Section 66 (C) of the IT Act.
During decoy operations, the SHE teams apprehended three people for creating nuisance on the roads and passing lewd comments against women folk at a residential area in Keesara. They were booked under a petty case.
Near Sanjeevani park, as many as 10 people were caught when they were troubling women pedestrians and were produced in a local court.
which directed them to participate in Swaach Bharat program for three days at Meerpet.
In another incident at LB Nagar, a student from Dilsukhnagar was caught when he was passing lewd comments against the women and girls at Chaitanyapuri. He was booked under a petty case.
