HYDERABAD: A woman inspector from the city was allegedly harassed over the phone by a stranger. A case has been registered at the cyber crime police station based on her complaint. Inspector G. Madhavi Latha, station house officer of the South Zone women’s police station, was at home on Thursday night when a stranger called her on her mobile phone.

“The caller called me six to seven times, used filthy language and abused me. I cannot remember whether it was a male voice or a female voice,” she said.
Though the incident occurred five days ago, a case was registered at the cyber crime police station only on Monday. “I informed the IT team about the abusive phone calls and later lodged a complaint with the cyber crime police. The officials are trying to identify the person who made the calls,” Ms Latha said.

The case has been filed under Sections 354-D, 506 and 509 of the Indian Penal Code, and an investigation has been launched. An official from the cyber crime police said that they were trying to track down the caller.
