Telangana: Faith healer held for sexual abuse

A man who claimed to be a faith healer was arrested for outraging the modesty of a woman.

Hyderabad: A man who claimed to be a faith healer was arrested for outraging the modesty of a woman on the pretext of helping her give birth to a boy. The in-laws of the woman who took her to the faith healer were also arrested. The police invoked Section 354 (criminal force on woman with intent to outrage her modesty) Section 420 (cheating) and Section 7 of the Drugs and Black Magic Remedies Act against fake faith healer Shaik Abdul Raheem, 68, a resident of Moghalpura.

The man Mohd Mansoor alias Saif works in a private company in Abu Dhabi and got married to the woman in August 2016. “Since the time of marriage, the in-laws were pressurising the woman to give birth to a boy. When she came to India during pregnancy they took her to faith healer Abdul Raheem who on the pretext of performing rituals touched her stomach and privates,” said DCP (south) V. Satyanarayana.

In November, the woman again went back to Dubai and complained about the incident in India. However, it did not have any success and between February and April when she returned to India her in-laws took her again to the faith healer. However, in May the woman gave birth to a girl following which her harassment increased and she was not allowed to enter the house. Later, the husband of the woman sent her a divorce notice and reportedly divorced her as she gave birth to a girl, the police said. Mr Satyanarayana said the faith healer induced the woman to undergo special rituals on the false pretext of helping them give birth to a boy.
