Hyderabad: 5 arrested for 20-year-old student’s death
Hyderabad: A day after the road accident which claimed the life of a 20-year-old engineering girl student, the Madhapur police apprehended the prime accused along with his four friends, who were travelling in the car when the accident took place.
The police also found that the accused student, Suchith Babu, did not have a licence to drive a four-wheeler.
During the wee hours of Sunday, a speeding car (AP 37 S 0444) carrying six persons rammed into an auto at Madhapur and climbed the footpath before turning turtle. M. Sai Vihita, a native of Guntur and final-year engineering student at Gitam University, was thrown out of the car and died on the spot with bleeding injuries. The driver of the auto M. Chandar also suffered injuries in the mishap.
Soon after the accident, the other five occupants of the vehicle fled from the spot without even thinking about helping their friend.
A case was registered into the incident by the Madhapur police on Sunday. On Monday, the police apprehended Suchith Babu, an engineering student at Gitam University, Rapolu Bhagat of Nizampet, Mohd Afzal, Talari Praneeth and T. Rahul Reddy, all residents of BHEL.
The Cyberabad police said, “At around 12 pm on Sunday, all the occupants drove from KPHB to Madhapur, where they purchased liquor from a home. They drank alcohol on the roadside and then headed towards Madhapur to drop Vihita at her friend’s house in Mehdipatnam. While overtaking an auto, Suchith, who was under the influence of alcohol and behind the wheels, could not control the vehicle and rammed into the auto.”
The police said that Suchith has been booked under Section 304 (ii) (culpable homicide), while his friends have been booked under Sections 109 and 201 of IPC.
They are being questioned and would be produced before a court for the judicial remand.
