Nellore: Special teams formed by superintendent of police P.H.D. Ramakrishna have been causing sleepless nights to both bookies and leaders involved in cricket betting in the district. Within 10 days after taking the notorious cricket bookie Krishna Singh into custody for questioning, a special team formed by the SP detained six more bigwigs of Nellore district at Hyderabad on Saturday.
According to reliable sources, those held are into betting and they include a city-level YSR Congress leader, a well connected businessman, a rice miller, a close follower of a senior most TD leader from Nellore and two others belonging to Sullurpeta and Allur. Police, expectedly, are tightlipped over the detentions. Incidentally only on Friday, ministers Narayana and Amarnath Reddy appreciated the SP for his action against betting gangs and sand mafia. They also suggested him to instruct his men not to cause hurdles to those transporting sand for building houses.
