Hyderabad: 3 run call centre, fleece people, held
Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Cyber Crime Police nabbed three men for running a call centre in Okhla Industrial Area, New Delhi and looting money from innocent people under the pretext of fake offers and prize money. The arrested were identified as Pradeep Prasad, Abhishek Diwan and Atma Dev Singh who were picked up on Wednesday from Lakdikapul.
The arrest was made following a complaint from Vittal Mohan Rao, in March, stating that he received a call from one Rahil Kapoor of Cherries Marketing Pvt Ltd who offered gift items like a laptop, cellphone and a trip to Turkey for two for an amount of Rs 2.5 lakh. “Believing his words the victim paid the money into the bank account details furnished by Rahil Kapoor. He was then told that he was selected for a Rs 17 lakh prize money and that he needs to pay an amount of Rs 5 lakh to claim the cash prize. Believing Kapoor’s words, he again paid the said amount. Later, several men introduced themselves as officials of the firm and kept increasing the money he had to pay towards various taxes and charges,” said the CCS, DCP Avinash Mohanty, adding that he paid as much as Rs 88 lakh in a span of four years to different accounts furnished by the fraudsters.
Based on credible information, officials from Hyderabad CCS proceeded to Delhi and apprehended Sumit Malik who plays a key role in the call centre being run by the fraudsters and he confessed that Prasad is the owner and Diwan and Singh are both partners and telecallers. who run a call centre along with other staff at Okhla Industrial Area, New Delhi. "Officials apprehended Prasad, Diwan and Singh and they were remanded to judicial custody by ACP Chakravarthy, who is the investigating officer of this case," said the officials, adding that other telecallers, team leaders and bank account holders are absconding.
