Hyderabad: A chain-snatcher who attacked a 70-year-old woman and made away with a small part of her gold chain a month ago, and the receiver, were arrested by the Chilkalguda police on Tuesday. Madhusudan targeted the victim while she was returning home along with her husband after medical tests. The husband fell down and suffered injuries.

According to the police, Ms B. Ramadevi of Padmarao Nagar and her husband B. Swaminatha Rao were walking back home from a diagnostics centre. Madhusudan followed them on a motorcycle, parked the vehicle at a distance, walked up to the couple, snatched the woman’s gold chain and escaped.

When they tried to resist, he pushed them. Mr Rao fell on the ground and suffered injuries. A  small piece of the chain weighing around 2 grams was lost, police said.

Based on CCTV footage and other clues, police traced Madhusudan on Tuesday. During inquiry, police found that the bike he used was stolen from Malkajgiri a few months ago. He sold the piece of gold chain to pawnbroker R. Satyanarayana for Rs 2,000. Police recovered the gold, bike and produced the duo before the court.
