Kerala honour killing: Hartal brings life to standstill

CPM and Congress activists were involved in a clash in front of the MCH mortuary where the postmortem was held.

Kottayam: Public life in Kottayam was paralysed during the harthal declared by the UDF, BJP and CSDS in the district. The harthal supporters blocked vehicles at different places in Kottayam town. CPM and Congress activists were involved in a clash in front of the MCH mortuary where the postmortem was held.

The party workers were seen standing in front of the MCH mortuary from Tuesday morning. What ensued was a clash between various political party activists, which began when Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan MLA tried to enter the MCH mortuary to see the postmortem proceedings. The MLA was allowed to enter into the postmortem room by the police after he told them that he entered the mortuary to prevent any malpractice when the postmortem was conducted.

Meanwhile, activists belonging to the CSDS and AKCHMS also reached the place and that resulted in large scale attacks. Police personnel who were present at the spot began a lathicharge. However, the violence persisted even after the body was handed over to the relatives of Kevin. The activists of various political parties attacked each other using stones and sticks.
