Karnataka: 11 held for panchayat VP's murder
Mangaluru: Dakshina Kannada police have unearthed the underworld connection in the murder of Karopadi Gram Panchayat vice president Abdul Jaleel. Police have arrested 11 people in this connection and seized two bikes, two lethal weapons used for the murder and a Maruti Omni car.
Inspector General of Police (Western Range) P Harishekaran said the two main accused Rajesh Nayak and Narasimha were arrested at Udupi. The murder was planned by an underworld element Vicky Shetty alias Vikram Shetty alias Balakrishna Shetty.
The police have arrested Roshan, Puneeth, Prajwal, Sachin, Pushparaj, Sathish Rai, Keshav, Prashanth and Vachan. Old rivalry is said to be the reason for this murder.
In December 2016, Rajesh Nayak and his friends were assaulted by few people. A case was filed against those assaulted. Meanwhile, Rajesh was named in a counter case connected to the incident. Rajesh believed that Jaleel supported those who assaulted him and held him responsible for the police case against him.
Underworld element Vicky Shetty too was unhappy with Jaleel. Panchayat member Dinesh Shetty, the cousin of Vicky Shetty, was an aspirant of Vice President Post of Karopady panchayat. But Jaleel managed to win the post. There were always differences between Dinesh and Jaleel. Thus Vicky Shetty was unhappy with Jaleel and thus apparently told Rajesh to murder Jaleel.
