3-month-old sold, father, others held
VIJAYAWADA: A father and 10 others have been arrested on charges of selling his three months’ old baby girl born at Mangalagiri in Guntur district.
North sub division DSP J. Rambabu told media persons on Tuesday that M. Manoj hailing from Mangalagiri is having two daughters. As his wife delivered a third daughter three months ago, he found it difficult to feed her. He sold her to a married woman identified as M. Gayatri alias Saraswathi, hailing from Kondaprolu village of Damarcherla mandal in Nalgonda district for ₹ 70,000 through a woman M. Nagalakshmi.
Gayatri, in turn, sold the baby girl to a woman B. Nandu alias G. Nandu hailing from Palkhed village of Lambadi Devalathanda of Nalgonda district for ₹ 1.2 lakh. Nandu further sold the baby to a married woman from Hyderabad, identified as S.K. Noorjahan for ₹ 1.87 lakh through a mediator B. Balavarthiraju.
Noorjahan again sold away the baby girl to a married woman identified as B. Umadevi from Hyderabad for ₹ 1.9 lakh with the help of a mediator A. Uday Kiran from Khammam district. Umadevi sold the girl to P. Sravani from Vijayawada for ₹ 2 lakh who, in turn, sold the girl to a married woman G. Vijayalakshmi for ₹ 2.2 lakh from Vijayawada. Vijayalakshmi sold the girl again to V. Ramesh hailing from Eluru for ₹ 2.5 lakh.
Finally, police nabbed all culprits, including the girl baby’s father, and rescued the girl, who has been safely handed over to her mother.
