NIA files chargesheet in Kanakamala IS case

One of the accused, Mohammed Fiaz, turned approver and was granted tender of pardon by the NIA court the other day.

Kochi: National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Wednesday filed chargesheet against eight persons in the Kanakamala IS module case.

In October 2016, following the tip off from intelligence agencies, NIA had busted an IS module gathered for secret meeting at Kanakamala in Kannur.

The group was planning to carry out attacks at various parts of Kerala and Tamil Nadu including mosques, temples and churches. It had also planned to attack police officers, High Court judges and BJP leaders.

The accused named in the chargesheet are Manseed alias Omar Al Hindi (Kozhikode), Swalih Mohammad T alias Yosuf alias Bilal (Chelakara, Trissur), Abu Basheer alias Rashid (Ukkadam, Coimbatore), Ramshad Nangeelan alias Aamu (Kuttiadi, Kozhikode), Safwan (Tirur, Malappuram), Jasim NK (Kuttiyady, Kozhikode), Sajeer Mangalassery (Kozhikode) and Subahani Haja Moideen of Tirunelveli.

The NIA exempted seven accused from the chargesheet including Moinudheen who was arrested from UAE last month.

Apart from Shajeer Mangalassery who is absconding, all other chargesheeted persons are currently under judicial custody.
