Fake cop tries to extort money from head constable, arrested
Chennai: The Pallavaram police on Monday night arrested a 22-year-old man for allegedly posing as a police inspector and attempting to extort money from a policeman.
The accused has been identified as V. Dinakaran, 22, a resident of Nagarkeni in Chromepet. He worked in a private company in Thirumudivakkam.
According to police, Delhi Babu, a head constable attached to Pallavaram, was returning home on a two-wheeler on Monday night when he was stopped by Dinakaran on Old GST road.
Dinakaran said he was a police inspector and began checking the papers and documents of the two-wheeler. He told Delhi Babu the papers were not in order and demanded Rs 200. When Delhi Babu revealed that he was a head constable with Pallvaram police, Dinakaran tried to run away, but was caught. A case has been registered against him. Investigation revealed that he has been cheating and demanding bribes from the public for the past few months, operating mostly in the suburbs.
Police have also recovered a police uniform and a two-wheeler with a police sticker on it. Dinakaran was produced before the court and remanded in judicial custody.
