CBI court erred in admitting graft case, BP Acharya tells HC

The CBI court took cognizance of the chargesheet in 2021, after the central government gave its nod to probe the bureaucrat’s actions

Hyderabad: Former IAS officer, BP Acharya, has argued before the Telangana High Court that it is not being fair on part of the CBI court to admit a case against him under a "repealed and amended" section of the Prevention of Corruption Act.

Justice Ujjal Bhuyan of the high court was hearing a petition in which Acharya challenged the CBI court decision taking cognizance of the CBI charge-sheet in relation to the Lepakshi Knowledge Hub of YS Jaganmohan Reddy`s quid pro quo cases.

The CBI court took cognizance of the chargesheet in 2021, after the central government gave its nod to probe the bureaucrat’s actions, under provisions of Prevention of Corruption Act.

The case was adjourned to Wednesday for further hearing.

Acharya was MD of APIIDC when the then government allotted 9,000 acres to Indu Shyam Prasad Reddy on the pretext of developing land and generating employment in the name of Lepakshi Knowledge Hub, which however could not see any development so far.

In another petition, Srinivasa Balaji, who is the sixth accused in the case related to Lepakshi Knowledge Hub (LKH), on Tuesday withdrew his quash petition. He was the MD of LKH. He filed the quash petition before the high court in 2016. With the stay orders having been obtained from the court, the trail was stayed since then at the CBI court.
