Peace wears thin in Kannur

Three IUML workers including MSF leader Fayiz Kavvayi are critically injured and admitted to a private hospital in Mangaluru.

Kannur: Hours after the district collector held peace talks with CPM and BJP leaders, a series of violence rocked Kannur again, where three IUML workers and three CPM workers were injured. Three IUML workers including MSF leader Fayiz Kavvayi are critically injured and admitted to a private hospital in Mangaluru. As many as seven houses and 11 vehicles were partially destroyed in the attacks. The IUML alleged that the CPM workers were behind the attacks and even the people, who attended a wedding reception in Kavvayi, were not spared.

Five CPM workers, Mukesh V., Anoop E., Ranjith K., Bineesh K. and Muhammed Hashim T., all hailing from Kavvayi, were arrested by Payyannur police. Country-made bombs were thrown at the houses and an IUML office in Perumba. Two DYFI workers were also injured in the violence. The issues erupted after both CPM and IUML tried to put their flagstaff in the area and tried writing on the wall. Later, police intervened and stopped both the parties from writing on the walls and erecting flagstaff.
