Hyderabad: Fingerprint analysis and the clues team helped the police in solving many cases in 2017. A unique facility, 3D scanner, was used in sensational cases to reconstruct the series of events. Sixty mobile security check devices were issued to the city police for rapid fingerprint identification. Nearly 1,013 ex-convicts were traced during the 19,303 checks and 4,664 cases were attended by the clues team.

“The unique 3D scanner facility was used in the Vikram Goud shooting case earlier this year and the scene was reconstructed with the help of the equipment.

Other notable grave cases detected with the help of the clues team are accident of Devireddy in Bowenpally, Ibrahim-patnam blast, Bowen-pally firing case, gaseous explosions in Malakpet, Rajendra Nagar road mishap and Osmania University student Murali’s suicide. Nearly 73 NDPS samples were tested at the clues team office,” said V.V. Srinivasa Rao, Hyder-abad commissioner.

Papillon is the new AFIS equipment. Taking the impressions of the accused through an electronic live scan is a milestone, said Mr Rao.

“Nearly 365 crime scenes were served for examination. Out of which 48 cases were found tallied with the fingerprints of ex-convicts and offenders and 175 cases were detected through chance prints and property worth more than Rs 1.5 crore was recovered. As many as 2,345 fingerprints of arrested persons in pro-perty cases were added to the database within a short time,” he added.
