Cybercrimes, drug cases see steep rise in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: Narcotic cases increased and debit/credit card frauds doubled in 2017. From 27 cases in 2015, narcotic cases reached 94 in 2017 — 169 Indians and 18 foreigners were arrested by the city police.

Among the narcotic cases, 914.7 kg ganja was seized in 2017 against 595.5 kg in 2016 and 274.8 kg in 2015, said the commissioner.

The drugs seized include ganja, cocaine, brown sugar, heroin, opium, charas, ephedrine and LSD blots.

Of the total 203 Indians involved in narcotic drug cases, 169 were arrested in 2017 and 18 foreigners were also held.

A total of 284 cybercrime cases were reported as compared to 237 in 2016. ATM and credit card scams were pegged at 73 compared to 43 in 2015.

However, some cybercrimes have come down this year. “Matrimonial cheating cases were 11 in 2016 and came down to eight this year. Identity and data theft cases came down by half with six cases this year and online hackings came down to 7 in 2017 from 11 in 2016,” said the official.
