Chennai: Slovenia tourist attacked, robbed at Mahabalipuram beach
Chennai: A Slovenia tourist woman was allegedly attacked and robbed at Mahabalipuram beach when she went for a walk on Tuesday evening.
According to her police complaint, the woman identified as Ksenija Murali was surrounded by three men when she was walking alone and was attacked.
She cried for help but the men snatched her bag containing 1,400 Euros, $250, Rs 1,000 Indian currency, a mobile phone worth Rs 20,000, along with passport and an international credit card. She has been in India since November and reached Mahabalipuram four days ago.
She suffered some injuries in the attack and was in the state of shock, police said. She got treated at a private hospital in Mahabalipuram before she lodged complaint with the police.
Police noted that they had formed special police squads to patrol the beach to make sure the tourists are safe there. “But isolated incidents do take place,” an officer noted. Preliminary inquiries revealed that the robbers may have followed the woman walking on the shore and attacked her when she was away from the crowd. Ksenija Murali also approached the Slovenia Embassy in Delhi through the Mahabalipuram police to retrieve her passport and other assistance for her
further travel.
