Chennai: Four held for robbing woman at knifepoint

Once inside the house, they brandished a knife and threatened her to hand over all the cash in the house.

Chennai: The city police on Wednesday arrested four persons in connection with a woman robbed at knifepoint in Thiruvanmiyur.

According to police, four persons came to the house of Govindhammal (49) at Marundeeswarar Nagar in Thiruvanmiyur, claiming themselves to be insurance employees on November 10. Govindhammal allowed them inside the house to collect details about her husband Jayapal. Once inside the house, they brandished a knife and threatened her to hand over all the cash in the house. They took Rs 4 lakh from the bureau, tied her hands and legs and fled.

A few minutes later, Jayapal who came to the house was shocked to see Govindhammal lying unconscious with hands and legs tied. He untied her and subsequently lodged a complaint with Thiruvanmiyur police. Police recovered CCTV footages and launched a search for them. On Wednesday morning police arrested the four identified as Saranya (35), Sarunagiri (36), Sathishkumar (32) and Premkumar (34).
