Chennai: Within hours after committing a murder in Neelangarai on Tuesday night, police arrested five men on early Wednesday with the help of CCTV footage.
The deceased identified as Balaji (32), a resident of Kottivakkam, had various cases against him in several police stations. The incident happened at around 10 pm on Tuesday night when Balaji was drinking at a Tasmac shop in Kottivakkam. According to police, five men on two bikes intercepted Balaji with sharp weapons.
The five men caught him and they constantly stabbed him with knives and fled the spot after people started to gather,” said a police officer.
On being informed, Neelangarai inspector with other cops rushed to the spot and sent the body to Royapettah government hospital. A case was registered and investigations began.
After combing the CCTV footage the locality, a hunt was launched for them, and they were tracked using the tower location of their mobile phone and was subsequently arrested.
The arrested were identified as A.Fasool (31), K.Javeen (25), M.Karthick (32), S.Raja (26) and R.Sanjaykumar (32) of Kottivakkam. Further investigations are on.
