Pondicherry varsity staff seek Vice Chancellor's removal

Pondicherry University Employees Joint Action Committee has decided to intensify the protest.

Puducherry: Pressure mounted on Pondicherry University Vice-Chancellor (in charge) following Kalapet police registering an FIR against her and 3 others on charges of criminal conspiracy, fraud and forgery.

Though the Madras HC on Friday granted an interim stay till November 1 on a probe against the VC, former registrar and economics professor M. Ramachandran, VC's private secretary S. Rajkumar and data entry operator N. Veerappan, the new developments marked as another blow to its reputation of the prestigious institution which has been facing downhill experiences in recent years.

Though the interim stay came as a relief to Ms Khan, Pondicherry University Employees Joint Action Committee has decided to intensify the protest for the immediate removal of Ms Khan from the post of Vice-Chancellor in-charge and to dismiss her from service. A memorandum was submitted to the registrar. At the same time K. Mahesh, assistant registrar, public relation, maintained that the allegations are false. “The complainant was an employee of the university in 2016 and he is suddenly making allegations after being silent for two years, which confirm that the allegations are false. The university will fight against it jointly”, he said.
