Tamil Nadu: Staff stop gang, lose their gold
Chennai: Ahead of Deepavali, a six-member masked gang’s attempt to pull off a heist at an unguarded private finance firm in Besant Nagar, was thwarted after the burglar alarm was activated on Friday afternoon. However, the gang hacked the manager and two women, and robbed the women of their valuables. The incident was reported at Muthoot Fincorp — Besant Nagar Branch. The injured are Sekar, (50), manager, and Fathima and Arivazhagi, both employees. Police said that the gang came in three bikes and stormed into the first floor facility at around 1.50 pm.
They tied the women employees using their dupattas. When the manager walked out of his cabin, they stabbed him in the back since he tried to resist them. Sekar collapsed on the floor with bleeding injuries. The gang got back to the women employees who were forced to open the locker. One of the women, on the pretext of sifting through her cupboard for the locker keys, picked up the alarm remote and activated it. This brought the heist to an abrupt end with the robbers snatching the chains of the women, and fleeing from the spot at 2.05 pm.
The high drama was caught in the surveillance camera installed on the campus. Senior police officers inspected the spot while the injured were admitted to a private hospital. Preliminary investigations suggest that the gang was aware of the fact that the branch was not guarded despite holding several lakh rupees worth valuables stored in it. Thiruvanmiyur police registered a case and are on the lookout for the robbers.
