Hyderabad: Fake doctor flees with Audi after test drive

The dealer claimed that the Audi (AP 28 DR0005) is worth over Rs 40 lakh.

Hyderabad: An unidentified conman, who posed as a doctor from Apollo Hospital, escaped with a second hand Audi Q3 after taking it for a test drive from a car dealer in Film Nagar.

The suspect walked into a pre-owned car dealership in Filmnagar at around 11:30 am and introduced himself as Gautam Reddy, a doctor at the Apollo Hospitals nearby.

He told the dealer that he wanted to buy an Audi car and requested permission for a test drive. The dealer, J. Narendra Kumar, allowed him to take the car for a test drive.

“The dealer send his employee Kashi to accompany the ‘doctor’. The suspect drove the car with the dealer's associate for a while. When they reached Apollo Hospital, he requested Kashi to step out of the vehicle saying that he wanted to drive it alone. As Kashi got off the suspect sped away with the vehicle,” said a police official from Banjara Hills police station.

Following a complaint from the victim, a case under IPC Section 379 for theft was registered. Cops are trying to trace the car by analysing available CCTV footages in the locality and surrounding areas. The dealer claimed that the Audi (AP 28 DR0005) is worth over Rs 40 lakh.

“We have started an investigation to track down the suspect and trace his location. CCTV footages in nearby areas are being analysed,” said Banjara Hills ACP Uday Kumar Reddy.
