7-member gang arrested in Bengaluru for dacoity
Bengaluru: The Tilaknagar police have arrested a gang of seven members in connection with a dacoity, in which diamond jewels worth over Rs 25 lakh and cash of Rs 10 lakh were robbed in May.
One of the arrested has been identified as Ranjith Kumar, 25, a resident of Netaji Nagar on Magadi Road, who is an employee of Vitrag Jewels Showroom in Jayanagar, to which the valuables belonged.
On May 11, showroom employees Kumar and Ravindra were on their way to deliver the jewels to an industrialist on S.P. Road.
They were also carrying cash of Rs 10 lakh to deposit it in a bank after the delivery. The gang waylaid them and had robbed them of the valuables.
As the police started the probe and questioned the employees, Ranjith got scared and asked his associates to return the valuables.
“But the other accused, without Ranjith’s knowledge, made duplicates of the jewellery and threw it near the showroom.
“The investigation was intensified and the accused were arrested,” the police said.
The police have recovered diamond jewellery worth Rs 25 lakh and Rs 4 lakh cash from the arrested gang members.
