Hyderabad: Depressed over alleged cheating by a man who promised to marry her, an 18-year-old woman consumed pesticide at her house. She was rushed to Gandhi Hospital where she died while undergoing treatment on Thursday night. Police has booked a case of abetment to suicide against the man, who reportedly duped the girl, and started an investigation.
According to Alwal police, the teenager, identified as Anitha, was a resident of Khanajiguda. She studied at a private school till Class IX and discontinued her studies after she failed to clear the Class X examinations despite two attempts.
About a year ago, Anitha met Jagadeesh, a resident of the same area, who was working in an internet cafe, where the girl was a regular visitor. The duo became friends and fell in love. Anitha had also told her parents that she liked Jagadeesh and that he had promised to marry her.
On September 24, Anitha, who was alone in her house, consumed poison. When her parents, both daily wagers, returned from work, they found her lying unconscious.
Petbasheerabad ACP A. Srinivas Rao said, “The girl died while undergoing treatment at Gandhi Hospital on Thursday night. In a complaint, her father Bhikshapathi has alleged that Jagadeesh lured her on the pretext of marriage but has now refused to marry her. Based on it, a case of abetment to suicide has been registered.”
