Hyderabad: IIM student held for molestation

The case was initially registered with the Medipally police who received an email from the woman.

Hyderabad: An alumnus of the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, working in the city, has been accused of outraging the modesty of a UK-based student, and cheating her by promising marriage.

He has also been accused of confining her in his room. He has been arrested and remanded to judicial custody.

On September 17, the Bhongir (town) police registered a case against 27-year-old Ribhu Ranjan Saha based on a complaint by a woman from Kolkata currently pursuing her Masters in the United Kingdom.

She said that Ribhu Saha cheated her by promising to marry her and outraged her modesty, besides physically assaulting her in his room in Bhongir in March this year.

“When I went to meet Ribhu in February, he physically assaulted me in his room and confined me there for several hours by locking the room from the outside. He promised to marry me, but later denied to do so. During my last visit, I forgot my camera at his place, which he refused to return and also threatened to burn my passport. In March when I was at a hotel he came there and assaulted me,” the victim told his paper.

Ribhu Sahu has been working in a real estate company in the city for a year.

The woman alleged that he also threatened her with dire consequences. The case was initially registered with the Medipally police who received an email from the woman.

The case was later transferred to the Bhongir police as the offence took place in Bhongir town limits.

Bhongir inspector Ch. Venkanna said, “The accused Ribhu, who stays in Uppal, has been arrested and remanded to judicial custody, under relevant IPC sections. Further probe in the case is on.”
