Coimbatore: 3 get double life term for two murders

While Rakiyappan and his elder daughter Vanitha succumbed to injuries, his wife and younger daughter escaped with serious injuries.

COIMBATORE: A special court in Coimbatore on Thursday convicted and sentenced three persons to double life term for murdering a textile unit owner and his daughter over a financial row in 2014. The trio also inflicted serious wounds on the owner's wife and another daughter.

According to the prosecution, Udhayakumar, 30, Paramasivam, 33, and Sayed Abdul Kadhar 32, all hailing from Tirunelveli district and working in the textile loom of Rakiyappan, 50, at Sulur-Kumarapalayam, were locked in a money dispute with the latter.

In a fit of rage, the three persons had attacked Rakiyappan, his wife Sarojini 46, and two daughters Usha alias Yashodha, 23, and Vanitha, 25, in December 2014, with a knife.

While Rakiyappan and his elder daughter Vanitha succumbed to injuries, his wife and younger daughter escaped with serious injuries. Police then arrested the three offenders.

On completion of trial, Judge Gunasekaran awarded double life term for the twin murder, another ten years for attempt to murder, ten years for trespassing into the house, besides imposed a fine of 5,000 on each.
