Kottayam: Police directed to book accused on sexual assault case
Kottayam: The Women's Commission has directed the Gandhinagar police here to register a case against a migrant labourer for allegedly attempting sexual assault on a girl studying in Class IV at Kumaranellur.
Commission member Dr D. Prameela Devi said it took a suo motu case after she was admitted to hospital where she took her statement on Wednesday.
She said the girl was scared after the incident, and the commission asked the police to take stern action against the accused. She also asked the child line authorities to file a petition at the police station.
“The commission will also register a case and hand over our findings to the court,” she told DC.
The child told the commission that the accused, a construction worker near her house at Kumaranellur, tried to abuse her. When she began to cry, and the locals assembled there, he fled. The incident happened on Friday, and her parents didn’t inform the police.
However, despite a warning, the employer allowed him to work at the site and when the child saw him the other day there she got nervous and got admitted to the hospital.
Sources at the police station said they were informed of the incident by the commission and would take further action after getting the child's statement.
