Hyderabad: A one-month old baby was abused during her parent's drunken brawl at Mehdipatnam main road late on Monday night. According to eyewitnesses, the couple picked up an argument and it escalated to a level where the mother tossed her child on the road when her husband refused to accept that it was his child.
The reason behind their scuffle was alleged to be the husband Abhishek's questioning of the character of his wife, Jyothi, and suspecting that she was having an extra marital affair, police said, adding that the baby was safe.
R Sekhar, the Sub-Inspector of Asif Nagar Traffic Police, who was on patrol duty intervened and resolved their conflict. Following this, the couple was taken home and handed over to the elders.
The whole incident, which occurred at around 10:30 PM on Monday night, was recorded in a video, which has gone viral on the social media. Abhishek can be seen refusing to accept the baby, following which the agitated wife, holding the child, forcefully tries to place it in his hands. She then throws the child on the ground and is slapped by her mother who is also present at the scene.
The incident brought traffic to a halt for a brief period of time. "However, we got them off the road and took them to the Humayun Nagar police station," added the official.
On Tuesday morning, the sober couple showed up at the Humayun Nagar police station to give a statement as asked by the officials.
"The couple resides in Kailash Nagar of Humayun Nagar area. On Monday evening, both Abhishek and Jyothi consumed alcohol and picked up an argument.”
“ The man is a labourer and the woman is a housewife. We counselled them and sent them off. The child is safe and, fortunately, is not injured. We asked the couple to attend counselling at Bharosa center,” said NLN Raju, Police Inspector of Humayun-nagar police.
