JNTUK to investigate bogus claims of staff

About 50 staffers didn't even have basic qualifications.

Kakinada: The Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Kakinada (JNTUK) has decided to check the certificates of the outsourced personnel it has employed.

The University has outsourced nearly 550 jobs in different categories since the past seven years, but it is now being alleged that some of the people who were hired don't have even basic qualifications while others — about 50 of them — had produced bogus certificates and got the jobs.

It is learnt that previously the posts had been allocated without consideration of the applicants' qualifications. It resulted in those with degrees doing attendants' jobs and under-qualified people holding posts of junior assistant, among others.

Many of those who came without qualifications have since completed their higher studies and are waiting to be appointed to jobs that they are now qualified to fulfil.

Some of them have submitted representations to the University officials, seeking that their posts be upgraded and salaries be sanctioned accordingly.

“The officials did not verify the applicants' certificates nor their qualifications. They gave them the jobs. After increasing their salaries, the officials want to rectify the lapse,” said a University official.

University Registrar Ch. Saibabu said that the certificate verification process would be done and all outsourced employees had been directed to submit their certificates to their superiors.

A committee, consisting of the University of Engineering College of Kakinada Principal Dr G.V.R. Prasada Raju, Director of the Institute of Science and Technology (IST) Dr K. Satya Prasad and deputy registrar Ms Tridevi, has been appointed to verify certificates.

Dr Saibabu said that unless the outsourced personnel submitted their certificates to the varsity, they could continue to get paid at the earlier rate for the month of August or their salaries stopped next month.

Dr Saibabu said that nobody would be made to suffer any injustice in the process, but they would be given suitable posts as per their qualifications. Many of the outsourced staff members requested the officials to promote them accordingly.
