Vijayawada: Police saves woman locked up by her son

Neighbours who came to know about the incident informed the Police.

Vijayawada: Police in Jaggaiahpet of Krishna district on Saturday rescued a woman who was locked inside a room in her house by her son and daughter-in-law.

K. Mallikarjuna Rao and his wife Aandal kept Padmavati (68) in a locked room forcibly. They also threatened her harm unless she vacated the house. On receiving the information, the police entered the house and rescued her.

Mr Mallikarjuna Rao runs rice mill business and was facing financial problems. He wanted to sell their house at Jaggaiahpet to clear his debts, but it was in the name of Ms Padmavati. The latter asked him to sell the rice mill instead of selling the residential property. She also told him that the house will be his after her time.

Irritated, Mr Rao and his wife locked Ms Padmavati in a room and told her that she would not be freed until and unless she agreed to sell the house.

Neighbours who came to know about the incident informed the Police. The police rushed to the sport and rescued the woman after breaking the lock. They have registered the complaint against her son and daughter-in-law and detained them.
