Hyderabad: Barber gets jail in his wife suicide case
Hyderabad: A barber from Meerpet, Chintala Anil Kumar, 27, was sentenced to seven years RI for harassing his wife and forcing her to commit suicide. In another case Mangali Pandu, 32, was sentenced to life imprisonment for harassing his wife and forcing her to commit suicide. She had set herself ablaze and had died in KPHB.
Anil’s wife Anitha committed suicide by setting herself ablaze in 2011 after being harassed by her husband for dowry. The couple had a love marriage as they belonged to different castes. A case of death due to dowry harassment and under the Prevention of Atrocities against SC/ST Act was registered at the Meerpet police station.
The VII Additional Court after hearing arguments found Anil guilty and convicted him. The court sentenced him to five years rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 on him.
In the KPHB case, Mangali Pandu had married Ambika and the couple had a daughter. But in 2015 Ambika set herself ablaze unable to bear the harassment of her husband. However in her dying declaration before the magistrate she said that her husband had attempted to kill her and a murder case was registered. It was found that he suspected her fidelity. The XV additional judge convicted Pandu on Friday and sentenced him to life imprisonment.
