Moral police goons kill 40-year-old man in Malappuram
MALAPPURAM: A 41-year-old man was brutally beaten to death by a gang of men in an alleged case of moral policing in Koottil near Mankada in Malappuram in the wee hours of Tuesday. The victim, who has been identified as Kunnasseri Naseer Husain, was manhandled by the gang after he was spotted inside the house of a woman who stays alone in the locality, the police said.
The incident took place at around 2.30 am on Tuesday. Four of the attackers have been taken into the custody by police in connection with the case. According to the police, the gang including the neighbours and relatives of the woman, trespassed into the house breaking open the door to catch Naseer who was earlier spotted by them near the house. After entering the house they started severely beating him up inside a closed room until he fell unconscious.
After the attackers fled the scene some of the local residents including his brother who reached the spot after receiving information from a neighbour took Naseer to a hospital in Perinthalmanna. The police reached the spot at 3 am. According to the police Naseer has already died before taken to the hospital. A probe has been initiated into the incident by A.M. Sidhique, Circle Inspector, Perinthalmanna.
The police said that Naseer had gone to the house of the woman, who stays alone, on Tuesday morning. According to the local residents, Naseer was spotted by the relatives of the woman. They gathered near the house to catch him, but the woman refused to open the door. The gang, including neighbours, broke open the door and found Naseer hiding inside a room.
Following an argument, they assaulted him severely and Naseer fell unconscious. Nawas Husain, bother of the victim, who reached the spot, was prevented from helping Naseer. According to Nawas, the attackers waited at the scene to ensure Naseer’s death and later fled the scene. He was rushed to a private hospital in Perithalmanna by Nawas and some neighbours.
The police said that Naseer had fractures in hands and legs besides severe head injuries. Four men were arrested, including the relatives and neighbours of the woman. The police have identified the accused and their arrest will be registered after detailed questioning. A forensic team also collected evidence from the house.
