Hyderabad: 3 held for threatening people with weapons

They used to borrow money, and threaten lenders.

Hyderabad: Rachakonda Police nabbed three members of a gang, who had been threatening businessmen with country made firearms, on Monday. The main accused, Chunchu Mallikarjun, a kirana merchant had borrowed huge amounts as loans from various persons, started threatening them to evade repaying the amounts along with his two associates.

The other accused have been identified as Mitta Anjaneyulu from Jangoan district and Prakash Kumar Jha from Kolkata. Mahesh Bhagwat, Rachakonda police commissioner, said that Anjaneyulu and Mallikarjun belong to the same village in Jangaon and Prakash has been living in Hyderabad for 24 years.

Mallikarjun runs a kirana shop and borrowed huge sums of money from his customers by gaining their confidence. However, he had no plans of returning them. He took Anjaneyulu and Prakash's help and offered them a share in the money.

Anjaneyulu chipped in Rs 50,000 and Mallikarjun gave Rs 48,000 to Prakash and asked him to procure firearms from Kolkata. Prakash purchased a tapancha with two live rounds and a 0.22mm pistol with two live rounds from one Basheer in Kolkata.

Since then, they have been threatening Mallikarjun's creditors and evading repayment of the amount. They cheated seven people in total for an amount of Rs 16,20,000. “On further inquiry, Mallikarjun confessed to murdering his wife Anasuya in 2013 and packing her body in a gunny bag before dumping it in a stream at Muthvellyguda. He then made up a missing person’s story,” said the commissioner. Police arrested the trio and seized the firearms.
