RGI Airport police nab robbers

They were arrested and sent to remand on Saturday.

Hyderabad: The Cyberabad Police arrested a three-member group of car thieves within the limits of RGI Airport Police Station on Saturday. The accused were identified as Prakash Sirve, Dinesh Gour and Jitender Servi, all natives of Rajasthan. They were nabbed when trying to dispose of the stolen vehicle.

Jitendra rented an SUV from Konda Satyanarayana, a driver from Old Bowenpally, and asked him to drive him to Bengaluru on April 12. After a day’s stay in Bengaluru, Jitendra asked the driver to drive him and his friends Prakash and Dinesh back to Hyderabad.

During their return journey, they got on the Outer Ring Road after crossing Tondupalli village. The accused asked the driver to stop the vehicle on the side of the road near Golconda village, where they alighted and started having a discussion. Meanwhile, the driver dozed off in his seat.

The accused took advantage of the opportunity, attacked the driver by sprinkling chilli powder in his eyes, and sped away with his car. Satyanarayana registered a case with the Airport Police, and teams were deputed to Alwal and Bengaluru to track down the accused.

An investigation revealed that the thieves had driven the vehicle to Bengaluru, and then to Rajasthan, to dispose of it. As the vehicle bore an AP number plate, the accused were unsuccessful in their attempt to sell it in Rajasthan, and so they decided to drive it back to Hyderabad.

They were arrested and sent to remand on Saturday.
